The Sports Academy was designed to give more time for athletes to train on individual fitness and strength as well as building skill acquisition and understanding game sense in multiple sports.
Students were nominated by their coaches and then interviewed and selected. During the season, coaches utilised data analysis as a means to strategically target and refine key skills and this allowed players to work specifically on improving parts of their chosen sports. Endurance and physical conditioning was a major focus in Term 1-2, moving towards power and explosive speed in Term 3 and 4.
It has been a gruelling and rewarding process and it has been a learning curve which demonstrates the benefits of encouraging sacrifice and commitment.
