Mr Lachlan Wood, one of our High School Humanities & Environmental Systems and Societies teachers no longer works at AIS. We are grateful to Mr Lachlan for his contributions to AIS over the last 4 years including his leadership of our Global Citizenship and Year 11 - 12 Creativity, Activity, Services (CAS). He also supported a range of other school activities including camps, sport and other events. Mr Jeremias will continue to teach Year 11 Environmental Systems and Societies for the year. Mr Hector, Miss Katrina and Mr Jeremias will continue teaching his other Humanities classes until our new teacher commences which we hope will be in early Term 2.
Ms Jeandri van Zyl, one of our Year 6 teachers will be leaving AIS at the end of the term due to family reasons. Ms Jeandri has taught Years 5 & 6 since joining us at AIS in 2024. In addition to her work in the classroom Ms Jeandri has supported a number of key primary school and whole school events. Ms Kourtney McCarthy will be joining AIS in Term 2 to take over teaching Year 6J.
We wish both staff members the best of luck with their continuing teaching journeys.
It’s a Small World
We had a wonderful small world story at AIS last week. Chris Goldrick, father of Layla in Foundation recognised our new Year 5 Teacher, Mr Dan Fulton as his Year 2 teacher from 1996 in Canberra.
Mr Dan said, ‘I taught Chris in my 2nd year of teaching in 1996. He recognised me at the Assembly last week. A surreal morning. I remember him as a terrific student. It’s nice to see ex students doing well’. Chris said ‘ It was pretty special to cross paths again after all these years’.
Three Way Conferences
I am looking forward to seeing parents and students at the school next Monday 18th March for Three Way Conferences. The canteen will be open for parents and students wishing to purchase snacks when they are at the school, but recess and lunch orders will not be taken as students will only be attending with their parents for their interviews.
Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO)
We have 15 high school students traveling to BINUS School over the weekend to participate in the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO). SASMO is an international mathematics competition organized by the Singapore International Math Contests Centre (SIMCC) aiming to cultivate students' interest in mathematical problem-solving and develop their mathematical intuition.
Campus Advisory Council
We held our first Campus Advisory Council (CAC) Meeting for 2025 on Tuesday morning. This was a great opportunity to share updates with our staff and parent representatives and also to take feedback from them to consider for future planning and also to take feedback to our Board.
Mr Bart Clancy, our Primary School Parent Representative, will be leaving AIS at the end of next month, so we need another parent to take his place. If you think you may be interested in this role, please email me at craig.eldred@ais-indonesia.com to organise a time to have a chat about the role.
