PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Ken Allen
Ken Allen, father of Charlotte in Foundation, sadly passed away on Monday evening while in Australia visiting his mother. In addition to being an AIS parent, he was very active in the expat hockey and AFL communities. Ken was the Treasurer on the original AIS Yayasan Board when the school was founded in 1996. The school has sent flowers to his mother, wife, Rishya and Charlotte on behalf of the whole school community.
A Week in High School
I have had a fantastic week visiting high school classes, planning meetings and joining an assembly. Highlights included a participating in Japanese tea ceremony in an EAL class; discussing the Cuban Missile Crisis with Year 10 History; listening to students discuss characters from a novel in Korean class; observing physics experiments with gas; observing biology students using a sheep’s heart to solidify their understanding of how the heart works and joining Year 12 discussing poetry as their prepare for their Mocks. I was able to join in three planning meetings with different high school departments to hear about how they are planning teaching and assessment to meet the needs of all students. Thursday morning’s SRC led assembly allowed a number of students to speak about their recent and ongoing projects including the Refugee Action Group, Year 11 Business Students, PAWS cat food drive plus a number of great performances. As I write this at the end of the week, I am very confident when I say that there is always high quality teaching and learning taking place in our classrooms and other learning spaces on a daily basis.
Year 12 Mock Exams
I would like to wish our Year 12 students the best of luck for next week’s Mock Exams. I know that our students have been working hard with their teachers in preparation for these exams.

It will be an exciting week for all students, teachers and other staff attending the Year 3 & 4 Camp to Bogor and the Year 5 & 6 Camp to Bandung.
