Benefits of Parent Three Way Conferences
HOW CAN PARENTS SUPPORT THEIR CHILD AT THEIR 3WC?
Be an Active Listener!
Lean in
Focus attention on your child and what is being said
Clarify what they said with questions and comments.
Be supporting and encouraging
Make positive comments
Ask pertinent questions at appropriate intervals
Provide your child with the confidence he/she needs to continue.
Encouraging smiles, positive body language, being interested; all help to create a supportive atmosphere.
PRACTICE SOME EXAMPLES BEFORE YOUR CHILD’S 3WCs |
*Ask specific questions about your child’s work/learning like ………….
“Why did you choose to share this particular piece of work?”
“What learning does this work show?”
“What did you find difficult and how did you get past it?”
*Make positive comments like ……………
“I’m really proud of the work that you have shown us.”
“I can see that you are getting better at….”
“I can see that you tried very hard.”
“I’m so impressed with the way you conducted your conference.”
*Give lots of authentic, positive feedback like ………….
“I can really see your learning when you….”
“I’m so impressed that you know how to.… “
“I didn’t know you could….”
*Express confidence in your child’s ability to lead the conference.
“I can see that you are really prepared and ready to begin your conference.”
“You are doing a great job leading this conference.”
“Today I have seen so many examples of your talents and skills.”
*Help your child to formulate goals.
“Now that we have seen your work, what do you think you should work on next?”
“What steps will you need to follow to reach your goal?”
“Are these goals achievable?
“What can we do to help you reach your goals?
See both you and your child on Monday 23rd September for your conference
We are looking forward to sharing your child’s learning journey with you!
