Last month, AIS Jakarta welcomed the Pandawara Group, one of Indonesia’s most influential youth-led environmental movements, for a special session with students from Year 8, Year 10, and Year 11 Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS).
During the visit, members of the group shared their inspiring journey of taking direct action to address environmental challenges in Indonesia. Students gained valuable insight into how Pandawara organises large-scale community clean-up initiatives, particularly focusing on polluted rivers and waterways, while encouraging greater public awareness of environmental responsibility.
The session provided students with a firsthand look at how a group of school friends from Bandung transformed a shared concern for their local environment into a nationwide movement. Through determination, collaboration, and the effective use of social media, Pandawara has grown into one of Indonesia’s most recognised environmental advocacy groups, earning international recognition, including a Guinness World Record.
Students were particularly interested in learning about the challenges and successes behind the group’s initiatives, as well as the impact that young people can have when they take meaningful action within their communities. The discussion highlighted the importance of leadership, civic responsibility, and environmental stewardship—values that align closely with AIS Jakarta’s commitment to developing globally minded and socially responsible learners.
The visit served as a powerful reminder that positive change often begins with small actions and that young people have the ability to make a significant difference in addressing real-world environmental issues.
